STEM Program Engagement Specialist

This position requires a highly organized, energetic, and service-oriented professional who can balance program coordination with hands-on delivery of STEM education experiences. The STEM Program & Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the museum’s mission through direct engagement with students, families, and visitors.

The STEM Program & Engagement Specialist is responsible for coordinating and delivering school tours, implementing weekday and weekend STEM engagement programs, and leading public-facing educational experiences. This role serves as a primary facilitator of the museum’s STEM programming and ensures that all programs are delivered with consistency, quality, and alignment to the museum’s mission.

This role is accountable for delivering measurable impact through program participation, visitor engagement, and program effectiveness. The Specialist coordinates tour bookings, leads program delivery, leverages volunteers to support execution, and tracks engagement metrics to improve overall program performance and visitor experience.

Position Scope

The STEM Specialist manages and supports key visitor engagement and operational areas, including:

  • Coordination, scheduling, and booking of school and group tours

  • Delivery of STEM programs for weekday school groups and weekend public audiences

  • Development and implementation of hands-on STEM engagement activities

  • Volunteer coordination and support for program delivery

  • Public visitor engagement and educational programming

  • Communication with teachers, group leaders, families, and participants

  • Tracking and reporting of program participation and engagement metrics

  • Support for seasonal programs, camps, and special events

  • Cross-department coordination related to education and visitor engagement initiatives

Because museum programming shifts throughout the year, this role must adapt priorities based on school schedules, weekend programming, seasonal camps, and special events.

Essential Functions

Tour Coordination & Program Scheduling

  • Manage incoming tour requests, schedule school and group visits, and maintain tour calendar

  • Communicate with teachers and group leaders to confirm expectations, logistics, and program details

  • Coordinate staffing needs and align volunteer support for scheduled tours

  • Ensure tours are organized, prepared, and delivered to meet visitor experience standards

STEM Program Delivery & Facilitation

  • Lead and deliver engaging, hands-on STEM programs for school groups and public audiences

  • Facilitate tours, demonstrations, and educational activities aligned with museum exhibits

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery across weekday and weekend programming

  • Serve as a primary public-facing educator representing the museum

Coordination & Support

  • Collaborate with volunteer leadership to recruit and schedule volunteers for programs and tours

  • Provide guidance, training, and support to volunteers delivering STEM activities

  • Ensure volunteers are prepared, confident, and aligned with program expectations

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer experience

Public Engagement & Visitor Experience

  • Deliver engaging educational experiences for all museum visitors

  • Support weekend programming, pop-up STEM activities, and visitor engagement initiatives

  • Assist with special events, camps, and high-attendance programming

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and customer service in all interactions

Program Development & Improvement

  • Assist in development and refinement of STEM activities and educational content

  • Identify opportunities to improve program quality, engagement, and delivery

  • Adapt programs to meet the needs of diverse audiences and age groups

Performance & Collaboration

  • Track and report on key metrics, including tour participation, program attendance, and engagement levels

  • Gather feedback from participants, teachers, and families to improve programs

  • Collaborate across departments to align education programs with museum priorities

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen program effectiveness and visitor experience

Decision-Making & Accountability
The STEM Education Specialist is expected to manage daily program operations, prioritize tasks, and proactively address challenges. This role is accountable for delivering high-quality programs, maintaining strong communication, ensuring positive visitor interactions, and achieving measurable engagement outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience in education, STEM, or related field

  • 2–4 years experience in education, program delivery, outreach, or public engagement

  • Experience leading or facilitating programs for youth, families, or diverse audiences

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Experience coordinating schedules, logistics, or group programs

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and volunteers

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and willingness to learn additional systems

  • Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in museum, nonprofit, or informal education environments

  • Experience with STEM curriculum development or hands-on learning activities

  • Experience working with volunteers or docent programs

  • Familiarity with scheduling systems, CRM tools, or registration platforms
